Violența domestică include toate formele de violență fizică, sexuală, psihologică sau economică și afectează persoane de toate sexele și vârstele. De obicei are loc în cadrul familiei și al gospodăriei, dar poate implica, de asemenea, persoane din relații actuale sau anterioare care nu locuiesc în aceeași casă. Consecințele sociale și de sănătate pentru cei afectați sunt uneori grave. Pe lângă suferința individuală, violența domestică provoacă costuri sociale ridicate.
